We are all guilty of it…..forgetting about leftovers that we have in our fridge. Often times we do not even realize that we have a science experiment forming in our refrigerator until we open the door and are smacked in the face with an awful pungent smell or we decide to clean out the fridge and find a container we will only touch with rubber gloves on.
Forgotten leftovers and unorganized refrigerator space can cause us to waste hundreds of dollars each month. We cram all sorts of new stuff in the fridge without getting rid of the old stuff and then new things that we just purchased get lost in the shuffle and by the time we realize that it is in the fridge, it is spoiled!
This next task is going to span the course of 1 month, but you will also be getting other tasks to complete in the meantime, so do not think I am letting you off easy! This week I want you to reorganize your fridge. It does not matter how large or small your refrigerator space is, it can be nicely organized! Here are some ideas for organizing your space, I hope these either work for you, or help you think of organizational ideas that will work for YOU!
*Divide your refrigerator space into specific sections: A place for beverages, a place for leftovers, a place for fresh produce, a place for thawed meats you plan on using that week. By organizing your fridge into sections, it allows you to easily see what you have and eliminates the potential for wasting items that spoil in the back corner of the fridge.
* Go through your leftover section at the end of each week and throw out things that are past their prime.
*Keep your fresh items in a special drawer or at the front (closest to the door) so when you open the door, you are smacked in the face with the items that say, “USE ME BEFORE I GO BAD!!”
In addition to organizing your fridge this week, I also want you to save all grocery receipts for the next month. Why you ask? Well, we are going to conduct a little experiment of our own. If you are like me, going to the grocery store is an inspiring experience that encourages me to get in touch with my inner Bobby Flay. Unfortunately, my inner Bobby often never makes it from the fridge to the stove so I have wasted money on groceries I do not use! At the end of the month we will go over our receipts to see what we REALLY used and which items were not a good purchase. Doing this can really help us save and spend wisely when we are at the ever tempting grocery store!
I wish you all good luck as you may come across some of your own science experiments in the fridge! One step at a time my friends, you are all doing an amazing job and I am so proud of you!
